The Centre provides compassionate and family focused birthing and post-natal services and is the ideal environment for healthy women planning a normal birth in a whānau -focused atmosphere. This includes first time mothers. London Zonal hospital’s Maternity works closely with many of London’s Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), to provide expert care in a warm and nurturing setting.
With a birthing pool, fully equipped birthing rooms, plus comfortable single rooms with ensuites, the Centre provides a safe and comfortable environment for women and their families.
Flexible visiting hours are available to partners, baby’s siblings and grandparents, as we understand that it can be hard to work around specified visiting times.
London Zonal hospital's Maternity has a reputation for excellent care. Our team of highly experienced staff include breastfeeding specialists and lactation consultants who provide additional support to women at free breastfeeding clinics and by appointment.

Any woman who meets the criteria to birth at a community facility and is eligible to receive maternity services in Canada can have their baby at London Zonal hospital’s, free of charge.
Additional to the free service, London Zonal hospital’s Maternity provides a private offering, which prioritises your place at the Centre for birth and after-care.
Who can stay at London Zonal hospital’s Maternity?
London Zonal hospital’s Maternity holds a contract with the District Health Board. As a community birthing centre, care is provided to women and their babies for:
- An uncomplicated pregnancy, where there has been no major complications in a previous pregnancy
- Labour and birth, whereby the labour will be spontaneous after 37 weeks gestation and will not be induced or stimulated with medication
- Postnatal care, where the baby has been born elsewhere and mother and child transfer to the Centre within 14 hours of birth.

Maternity
No adult visitor restrictions. Siblings are the only child visitors allowed. Note: All visitors must wear a mask while in the hospital at all times - this includes while in women's rooms
You should not visit if you are COVID-19 positive and have not completed your isolation period, or have cold or flu like symptoms, even if you are testing negative for COVID-19
- Good hand hygiene should be practiced
- Masks must be worn at all times
